Neuropathic pain remains a mounting public health concern worldwide. Tremendous changes have affected the practice of pain management, particularly therapeutic advances. A better understanding of the pathophysiology of chronic neuropathic pain conditions, and critically review novel state-of-the-art interventional and noninterventional techniques in diagnosis and management of chronic pain is necessary.

Objectives of the special issue
1. Discuss current evidence-based management strategies for treating neuropathic pain
2. Present an in-depth update and analysis of management strategies for neuropathic pain
3. Consider management updates in selected conditions e.g. diabetic neuropathic pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic pain in cancer, HIV/AIDS related neuropathic pain, post-stroke pain and chronic regional pain syndrome.
4. Discuss drugs used in neuropathic pain: How strong is the evidence?
5. Discuss neuropathic pain management in children, women and in older adults
6. Describe how to manage risks associated with pain management including abuse, addiction, and risks to both patients and caregivers
7. Describe topical therapies in the management of chronic pain: How strong is the evidence?
8. Consider complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in neuropathy: How strong is the evidence?
9. Describe new and novel approaches for neurostimulation including high-frequency stimulation, adaptive stimulation, burst stimulation, electric peripheral nerve stimulation, and block
10. Address psychological issues associated with neuropathic pain.
